The Astronomical Observatory of Brera is one of the most important historical buildings in the Milanese scientific community. It is a space used for studying the Universe whose origins date back back to the 18th century. What are you waiting for?
Currently, the building is the headquarters of the Astronomical Museum of Brera, a complete exhibition that houses a multitude of objects relating to astronomy and that have been of great importance in different findings that have been carried out within these walls. In fact, it was here where talks of the Mars canals first began, geographical features first spotted by the astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli in the year 1877.
During the tour, we'll explore the Gallery of Instruments accompanied by our guide who will explain different interesting facts about the objects we'll see. You'll learn so much!
What is a magnetometer used for? How does a spectograph work? Why were pendulum clocks so important in astronomy? We'll learn all about this and much more, as we see many different historical items.
After an hour, the tour will come to an end.
Gallery of Instruments + Schiaparelli Dome
Do you want an even more enriching experience? If you choose the option that includes a visit to the Schiaparelli Dome, the tour will last a total of 75 minutes. 30 of those minutes will be dedicated to visiting the Gallery of Instruments, and the rest of the time will be spent at the dome where the Merz telescope is found, used by astronomers in Brera since the 20th century.
