One of the most famous buildings in Prague, the Dancing House is a wonderful example of post-modern 'deconstructivist' architecture in the heart of the city.

History

The Dancing House stands on the site of an apartment building that was destroyed during the Second World War. The project was controversial due to its deliberate intention to break away from the aesthetics of the area's more traditional architecture.

Completed in 1996, the project was a joint effort completed by Vlado Miluni and Frank Gehry and received several awards for its innovative design.

How to visit the Dancing House

Located on the Vltava River, you can get to the Dancing House by foot, public transport or on board a tourist bus from the city centre. Inside the Dancing House, there are plenty of food and shopping options as well as great views of the city.

Did you know...

Dancers Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers served as the inspiration for the building's now iconic design, as well as the house's original name, which was Fred and Ginger.
