Pompeii & Naples Day Trip
Pompeii & Naples Day Trip
At 7:30 am, we'll set off from the Italian capital and cross Rome’s fertile landscape and the area of the castles called Castelli Romani. Montecassino is one of the little towns of the region, where the Battle of Monte Cassino took place during World War II.
After 3 hours on the road, we'll arrive in Naples, the capital of Campania. We'll enjoy a brief panoramic sightseeing tour from the bus of some of its most iconic sites, such as the Gallery of Humberto I, the San Carlo Theatre, the Piazza del Plebiscito, and the old harbor. Then, we'll leave Naples behind and cross the fertile valley of Vesuvius and we'll stop to have lunch at a restaurant. The menu consists of a pizza (Margherita, Neapolitan, mortadella, or ham pizza), a mixed salad, a dessert, and a drink (to choose from between water, a glass of wine, a beer, or a soft drink).
After lunch, we'll make a brief stop at a cameo workshop to discover how these precious stone reliefs are made. It'll then be time to take a 2-hour long historical tour through the ruins of Pompeii. We'll explore this city, which was buried under tons of volcanic ash when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, killing 2,000 inhabitants. The town was discovered 1,700 years later and now is a remarkably well-preserved archaeological site where you’ll get a real sense of how life was in an ancient Roman colony.
After the visit to Pompeii, we'll return to the capital of Italy. Arrival in Rome is scheduled for approximately 7:30 pm.
Hotel pickup
When making your reservation, you can opt for a tour with pickup. If you do so, you'll be picked up from the main hotels in the centre of Rome that have a 24-hour reception. If you're staying in an apartment or bed and breakfast, you should head straight to the meet point: in front of the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martri, near the metro stops Piazza della Repubblica and Termini.
You can also reserve the tour without pickup. If you choose this option, we'll pick you up directly from in front of the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martri.
Self-guided tour of Pompeii
If you prefer, you can opt for a self-guided tour that doesn't include a guide. With this option, transfers from the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri and the entrance to Pompeii are included, but you'll visit the site on your own. Lunch and the cameo workshop are also not included in this option.
