Tour of Guatapé + Boat Ride
Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet by Poblado's San Jose Church, and from there, we'll head through the beautiful green landscapes until we reach the town of Marinilla. Here, we'll have breakfast of an arepa with scrambled eggs, cheese, and fried plantains.
Then, we'll check out La Piedra del Peñol rock, standing 721 feet (220 meters) tall. From the summit, we'll have Guatapé at our feet! Here, you'll have an hour and a half of free time to enjoy the landscapes.
Next, we'll make our way to the town of Guatape, where we'll leave you another hour and a half to stroll along the promenade and see the famous Plaza de los Zócalos, full of colorful houses and murals.
We'll also take you to the replica of the Old Peñol, a small park that recreates how the village used to be in this area before it was flooded by the waters of the dam in the 70s. We'll tell you all about this fascinating history. Afterward, we'll be able to replenish your energy with a well-deserved typical lunch of beans, rice, plantain, arepas, and meat.
Following lunch, we'll board a boat for a relaxing cruise around the beautiful Guatapé dam. As we sail along, we'll see the ruins of the famous Hacienda la Manuela, one of the mansions that belonged to drug lord Pablo Escobar.
We'll learn the history of this house and then return to the starting point, where the tour will come to an end 10.5-12 hours after departure.
