Archeological Private Day Trip
Archeological Private Day Trip
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Beijing and drive to the outskirts of the capital of China to kick off our private archeological day trip.
After a short 2-hour drive, we'll arrive at the Zhoukoudian archaeological site. In this prehistoric site, declared a World Heritage Site, we'll visit the excavations where the remains of numerous hominids of the species Homo erectus pekinensis have been found.
As we leave the archaeological grounds behind us, we'll pay a visit to the Zhoukoudian Museum to learn more about how the hominids lived. We'll also discover interesting facts about the theory of human evolution that will help us better understand our ancestors.
Then, having explored history and archeology for 2-3 hours, we'll stop for lunch. Here, you can enjoy a delicious meal at any of the local restaurants before we continue our day trip.
With our batteries recharged, we'll go to the famous Marco Polo Bridge. This is an iconic stone footbridge that crosses the Hai River. The most surprising thing about this bridge is that it's mentioned in the book of The Travels of Marco Polo!
After learning about its history, we'll head towards our last stop of the day, the Wanping Fortress to visit this imposing 17th-century castle. It's a spectacular bastion, constructed by order of the Ming Dynasty to defend Beijing from the rebellious peasants of China, who were led by the opponent Li Zicheng.
At the end of the fortress tour, we'll bring you back to your hotel in Beijing, 8 hours after pickup.
