Historic Budapest Free Tour
Historic Budapest Free Tour
We'll meet at the time of your choice or at the indicated time at Mádach Imre Tér square. From this point, we'll start our tour of historic Budapest.
The tour will start by walking up to St. Stephen's Basilica to learn about the history of this beautiful neoclassical church and enjoy its imposing twin towers.
We'll pass in front of famous locations such as Freedom Square, the statue of officer Harry Hill Bandholtz and a Cold War bunker to learn more about the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the role of Budapest during the war conflicts of the Contemporary Age.
We'll then stroll along the banks of the Danube River, to admire the Chain Bridge, the Shoe Monument, and a breathtaking view of the Buda Castle. We'll also see some highlights of the Budapest Parliament. If you look closely you'll see the shrapnel marks on its façade from the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.
The next stop will be at Kiskörút, the oldest boulevard in the city, and then we'll stop in front of a small fragment of the medieval wall where we'll see the damage caused by the great flood of 1838.
Our last stop will be in front of the Hungarian National Museum. On its steps, you'll find a plaque in honor of Sándor Petőfi. Here we'll end our tour after a 2.5 hour walk.
